To shine a light on that which affects the citizens of South Dakota by bringing hope in the darkness and helping those in need.
Partner with organizations and individuals to host annual fundraisers and awareness events throughout the year.
When things are tough, South Dakotans do what comes naturally – we focus on the positive, we work to make things better, we shine a light on all that is good.
Let it Shine South Dakota began as a spark of an idea in the spring of 2020 during the beginning months of the Covid-19 pandemic. The goal was to unite the residents of Sioux Falls by encouraging all to head outside at the same time and shine lights of hope in the night for the frontline workers and patients battling Covid-19. The response was overwhelming. A plane and a few drones flew over capturing the night, and participants shared images from their front yard events.
Due to the popularity of the one night of hope, the effort quickly drew statewide interest. Communities across South Dakota lit up football fields, main street businesses, and homes to show their support for those hardest hit by the pandemic.
Momentum continued to build, and shortly after, a third event was held as a fundraiser for Feeding South Dakota complete with a live broadcast, live music, and a light show. The event collected enough money for over 150,000 meals.
It became clear there was a need for this type of togetherness and positivity.
Now established as a 501-C3, Let it Shine South Dakota aims to continue to bring hope in the darkness for individuals and organizations in need of help – whether that be a virtual hug, financial aid, or advocacy and awareness.
